Dissatisfied people at work - Why aren't you doing something about it?

We all know what unsatisfied people do i.e. something else than productive work, complaining to colleagues, spending extra time surfing the web, longer breaks or doing the strictest necessary to avoid being sanctioned or just being present, which seems to be better than being absent unless it isn’t!

Do you happen to know how much it costs your company having unsatisfied people at work between surveys? Than why are we so happy about it? Perhaps we shouldn't

But how do we measure a company culture or employee happiness?

As you all know there is the traditional anonymous (and costly) yearly or bi-annual employee satisfaction survey. And most companies are happy with response rates between 80 and 85% and with satisfaction rates between 56% and 70%! Then you are left between surveys with trying to implement action plans that amount to “shooting in the dark” as they are based on aggregate anonymous data of the past.

One of the management solutions to positively address the above is to “take the pulse” of your people’s engagement and happiness individually, on an ongoing and frequent basis and act on the feedback without delay.

Like you monitor your health by measuring your heart rate and blood pressure, do the same for your team, department or company.

You know that a good leader is a good listener; takes steps in the right direction.
